The SweeTones

Heather Crosse

Heavy Suga'

Heather has been singing for 32 years, playing bass for 19 years & she knows exactly what makes her spirit dance…BLUES & old SOUL music! Heather was born in Louisiana, where she began singing in her childhood. In her early twenty’s, Heather lived in Hot Springs, Arkansas, where she cut her teeth playing bass for Detroit/Arkansas Bluesman, St. Thomas Jenkins. After his passing, Heather polished her musical chops by playing in several bands in AR. She then branched out playing in MS. Blues bands Super Chikan & The Fighting Cocks, Stan Street and the Hambone Band, and Big T & The Family which eventually led her to take up residence in Clarksdale, Mississippi, home of the world famous “Blues Crossroads,” the place she currently calls home. Although Heather spent several years backing her Blues mentors, she has also fronted her own Soul Blues band, Heavy Suga’ & The SweeTones, for 8 years. In May 2015, Heather & her band recorded their debut album entitled, “Groovin’ At The Crosse Roads” under German Blues label, Ruf Records, with Grammy Award winning producer, Jim Gaines, now released worldwide in September 2015. Heather met Jim when she recorded the “Ruf’s Blues Caravan 2015: Girls With Guitars” album & was so excited when Jim signed on to produce her solo album. Heather spent most of 2015 touring all over Europe, UK, and USA with the Ruf’s Blues Caravan. In 2016 Heather will be touring USA and Internationally with her band promoting their new album.

"Groovin' At the Crosse Roads" by Heather Crosse is a breakthrough debut. She takes her place with the finest musicians on today's scene. Her singing, like that of Etta James or Maria Muldaur, combines the best of being a tough mature woman and at the same time a sweet, vulnerable girl. Her band, Heavy Suga' & The SweeTones plays with authority and is a showcase for the outstanding rhythm section of Heather on bass and Lee Williams on drums. Fine original songs —  personal and universal. Great move taking this project to venerable producer Jim Gaines, makes this album not just a good start but a powerful accomplishment. All aboard!"
